About Sherri

Sherri Sosensky is a Certified & Licensed Kidding Around Yoga (KAY) Children’s Yoga Instructor. Sherri has been practicing Yoga for over 20 years. She continuously strives to broaden her knowledge base and increase her skills. Sherri earned her 200-hour Adult Yoga Teacher Certification through Lotus Gardens Yoga School in 2017. Sherri is also certified to teach Senior and Chair Yoga to enable all to enjoy the richness of Yoga’s many benefits. She can be found teaching Kids, Teens and Family Yoga classes all throughout Connecticut at public, and private Elementary schools. You’ll find her at local Pre-schools, yoga studios, summer day camps, the Jewish Community Center,  and Synagogues / Hebrew schools where she brings the Jewish Holidays & values to life through the KAY Yoga Yeladim program.

The KAY program is nationwide and simply magical!! Faces light up, bodies are moving and grooving, Children gain balance, strength and better focus all while stretching, dancing and striking poses. The KAY program teaches the Yoga sutras, asanas, meditation & pranayama (breathing techniques).

Each class includes a Warm up, Meditation discussion, ‘Sun’ Salutation, dramatic play through a short story, an OM workshop with asana/pose review; ‘Mindful’ games, partner poses and so much more. Her students rest in their ‘Peaceful’ Garden and make believe their yoga mats are magic flying carpets as they lift off and fly away to a special place where they can dream, relax and breathe in Savasana.

Yoga has become a huge part of who Sherri is as a person and as a professional. Sherri shares her love for Yoga with her students daily and teaches them to be kind, do for others, help one another, focus and be mindful in class, home and away every day.

Personally, she is married with 2 beautiful daughters in College and beyond and lives in Woodbridge, CT.   Sherri feels yoga is truly a physical and emotional workout. Her philosophy is to take the ‘Tree’ pose with her wherever she goes so she can maintain a sense of balance, strength and peace throughout her day.

The Magic of Kidding Around Yoga

When children experience KAY classes, they are not only building physical strength and flexibility, they are learning skills that will provide mental and emotional benefits throughout their lives! The magic of Kidding Around Yoga is our unique class programming. KAY teachers are experts in meeting each child’s needs, providing creative activities, games, songs, and crafts based on traditional yoga and meditation practices.

Our children live in a busy world and KAY classes are an oasis providing a safe place to be creative, move freely, and experience calm. We look forward to being part of your child’s day!

Mindful Moments

Mindful Moments in the Classroom with Sherri

If you are an educator or elementary school principal, please consider bringing this special program into your School system this coming year.

My weekly Mindful moment lessons will:

  • Include: Embracing Stillness, Breathwork, Yoga Poses & Meditation
  • Improve Your students’ ability to self-regulate
  • Help Control their Impulsive Behaviors and Increase their Attention.
  • Increase your students’ ability to be present and more Mindful through playing Mindful Games
  • Cultivate a positive, peaceful, and productive classroom climate.

In general, Yoga inspires discipline in children and values of honesty, self-control, gratitude, respect and kindness. YOGA REDUCES STRESS, and provides a calming atmosphere to build one’s self-confidence.

Students who have the skills to self-regulate are more focused and centered, meaning they simply learn better. Teaching them to cope effectively with stressors is key to personal and educational success.

Birthday Parties

NOW offering LIVE Outdoor YOGA Birthday Parties &/or ‘Virtual’ through ZOOM.

Girl Scouts

Hello local Scouts and neighborhood leaders!

I would love the opportunity to introduce the Science of Yoga to your troop/den and help them earn a Yoga Fun Patch.

While teaching the Science of Yoga, KAY provides a curriculum that is specifically designed to help children be active, learn to relax, improve focus, and have FUN in a non-competitive environment. I will offer a class customized for your troop level, which can include a special scout story, meditation techniques, games, activities, and much more!

I teach all troop/den levels and can even do private sessions as well.

I look forward to hearing from your organization to schedule a class soon.

Om — & L’Chaim!

by Paul Bass – New Haven Independent
Oct 13, 2016
I was asked to appear on WNHH 103.5 FM New Haven Independent/ Chai Haven to speak about my Kidding Around Yoga & Yoga Yeladim programs I’m offering to Children at neighboring schools and temples, JCCs, etc.

Sherri Sosensky knows little kids get antsy in class. So she figured out how to help them breathe and focus while they learn about the Bible or the Hebrew alphabet.

Sosensky found the answer in yoga. And she shares that answer with kids and families throughout our area.

This fall, Sosensky is teaching… read more.

October is Mindfulness Month

How do we raise thoughtful, compassionate, emotionally healthy children? It’s a question many parents and caregivers ask in this fast-paced world of smart phones, social media, and the go-go-go pace of modern life. We do it with a daily yoga, breathing or mindfulness practice of course! Here is your daily practice to do with your kids, friends, family or students of ALL AGES. Enjoy! *Be sure to share your mindfulness practice with us by using our hashtag #MindfulnessMonth when you post on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter*

Join Sherri of Kidding Around Yoga with Sherri for a Mindfulness Game of Zip Zap Zop.

Zip, Zap, Zop Mindfulness Game
This game teaches mindfulness. Students begin with their hands in ‘Namaste’ at the heart and pass energy across the circle (in the form of zip, zap, zop). They need to make eye contact with the person they’re sending the energy to. If one is not mindful and is not paying attention, he might zip instead of zop, etc. This person would be ‘out’ of the game. The game continues until there is 1 very mindful child left as the winner! (If playing with younger children, I modify and do not eliminate any players. We simply play for fun and practice focusing.)

Benefits:
The benefits one receives from playing this game is simply playing because it is so much fun!! However, more importantly, is gaining the ability to focus while practicing playing this game over and over again. Thus the child learns to pay attention, ignore external distractions and therefore, becomes more mindful in general.
