Mary Ann’s lifelong passion is working with children, which is evident as she has been an elementary school teacher for over 30 years. In addition to her work in the classroom, she supervised a horseback riding day camp for six years and has been a lead teacher for the summer day camp at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School in Bradenton for too many years to count.
Mary Ann first experienced yoga in 2001. She began attending classes regularly and couldn’t get enough of it. She began a daily home practice after reading about the benefits and loves getting on her mat at a moment’s notice. She even keeps a mat in her car! She also enjoys visiting studios wherever her travels take her and loves learning from a variety of teachers.
Mary Ann loves the way she feels physically and emotionally after practicing yoga – recharged, focused, and balanced. She loves to share yoga with kids because they need those same things and are able to get them from yoga. Kids just seem to naturally get yoga, and they love how it makes them feel.
She attended her first kids’ yoga teacher training in 2008 and began teaching kids yoga shortly after. She started an after-school yoga program because a little boy in her first grade class really wanted to take yoga and there weren’t any classes for kids in the area. Her classes were an instant hit and quickly grew to two afternoons a week!
Mary Ann attended her first Kidding Around Yoga training with founder Haris Lender in May of 2014. That weekend was amazing! Mary Ann has since retaken the course, as well as attended Kidding Around Yoga Summer Camp and became a KAY Licensee.
Mary Ann is a great kid’s yoga teacher because she combines what she knows about yoga from her personal practice with her kid’s yoga training, as well as her experience as a classroom teacher. Her goals for her young yogis and yoginis are to learn to calm themselves down, feel more confident, become better people, and have fun! She loves sharing yoga with children!
When she’s not teaching, Mary Ann likes to spend time with her family, friends, and pets, garden, read, walk, bike ride, kayak, do yoga, meditate, and learn new things!
I recently moved to Ronan, Montana and am in the process of setting up new classes. Please check back later.
