Lisa Newton is a RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance after receiving her training from Pineapple Yoga Studio. Lisa Newton is trained in Kidding Around Yoga after receiving training from KAY at CircuSoul Yoga Studio. Kidding Around Yoga (KAY) is a style of Yoga that was created by Haris Lender, ERYT 500, RCYT, YACEP. KAY encompasses the 5 branches of Yoga in a clear engaging method. A typical KAY class gets the children singing, dancing, skipping,marching, jogging, shaking, laughing, hopping, limboing, and storytelling ALL while practicing authentic Yoga to original KAY music. For Lisa, yoga is about the inner change and awareness. Practice is a time to put everything else on hold and connect to your inner being. The heightened awareness she experiences is what continues to draw her to the mat. Her passion is to share the positive effects yoga has had upon her life in hopes of continuing this positive effect among all adults and children.
In my Kids Yoga classes, I use Kidding Around style of yoga for kids that specializes in sharing yoga, mindfulness, and meditation with children 5- 12; specialized fun music, mindfulness, as well as other as well as other tools and activities to help children focus their minds and stretch their bodies, all while having loads of fun. Yoga and meditation has been considered for a long time as a wonderful means of stress management. We use a system based on the classical study of yoga and transforms it into an experience for children to both introduce them to yoga as well as inspire them to develop a practice and give them tools to take into adulthood.

My passion is in teaching Yoga, meditation, and mindfulness to children. I will be teaching a series of four Children Yoga classes every 4th Saturday of the month starting in September. Every class your child attends he or she will take something home with them! I will be offering a series of Children’s Yoga classes at Pineapple Yoga Studio in downtown Sarasota. Each class will build on one another and will help improve strength, flexibility, and coordination. These fun, inspirational classes encourage a child’s natural thirst for knowledge. In this imaginative series, I combine simple Yoga poses with engaging songs, stories that exercise social, sensory and motor skills all while increasing flexibility. Children will learn how to focus and center themselves with various breathing and visualization techniques. They will also learn self-respect and respect for others with the practice of fun and challenging poses, partner and group poses, lots of Yoga games, breathing and basic anatomy. This class is 90 minutes (1:00 -2:30 pm) and recommend age is 5-12 years old.

1st Class: Saturday, September 28th 1:00-2:30 pm
Yoga to calm class:
In this fun class I will provide a brief introduction to Yoga and what it is. We will review 12 fun beginner poses and learn a calming sequence great for students who are feeling big emotions such as anxious, frustrated, stressed, or when they have a lot of energy that needs to be channeled. We will do a breathing rainbow meditation.
*Children will go home with the breathing rainbow meditation craft from class and an at home after school calming sequence. This sequence is great to do after school!
2nd Class: Saturday, October 26th 1:00-2:30 pm
Yoga to exercise class:
In this fun class we will learn an active children Yoga and movement sequence. We will have a fun Halloween Yoga party with a spooky Yoga obstacle course!
*Children will go home with the meditation spider craft from class.
*Children can wear their Halloween costume to the studio for this special class!
3rd Class: Saturday, November 23rd 1:00- 2:30 pm
Yoga to show gratitude:
In this fun class we will learn a Gratitude Yoga Flow. A class filled with Fall themed movements and Yoga Poses. This Yoga class I will introduce mindfulness meditation for children. I will show simple mindfulness practices to help your child deal with anxiety, improve concentration, and handle difficult emotions. Mindfulness exercises are suitable for all children age six and up who want to calm the churning thoughts in their head, learn to feel and understand their emotions, and improve their concentration. We will also be talking about love and kindness and I will teach the children a love and kindness meditation. Children will get to paint kindness Yoga rocks on the studio’s patio and then take home one to hide around the downtown area. (Children will be a part of the Sarasota Rocks Global Kindness Project that is happening in our Sarasota community!)
4th Class: Saturday, December 28th 1:00-2:30 pm
Yoga to stretch and calm the body:
In this fun class we will review some of the calming sequences, meditations, and mindfulness techniques that were presented in previous classes. We will end the series of classes with a Winter Wonderland Yoga Party! There will be winter themed Yoga poses, winter breathing and meditations, games, snowballs, and MORE! Children will get to make and take home a calming mind jar. A mind jar is a visual aid that gives overwhelmed children something peaceful to focus their attention on.
