Katie Rose was born and raised in WV. She is not a lifelong yogi. Katie received her Bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in 2009 (finally) after years of hard work mainly in the Staffing and Recruiting industry. Yoga was something she had dabbled with and really did not embrace until pregnancy and the birth of her vibrant son, Alden in 2008. Katie has always been passionate about working with children, and had the blessing of working in Early Childhood Education for 2.5 years. It was in her toddler classroom, as well as with school-agers, that Katie saw the difference yoga could make. She pursued teacher training and received her 200-hr Hatha Yoga Teacher certification in June of 2012. Also in January 2012, Katie had the opportunity to travel to sunny St. Petersburg, FL to attend a Kidding Around Yoga Teacher Training with founder Haris “Harini” Lender. It rocked her world!
She came back to Huntington, WV with a new vibrancy and a renewed relationship with her inner child, and has been teaching Kids’ Yoga ever since! Katie is so thankful for the genius that is the KAY formula, teaching the science of yoga while allowing kids to be kids. Katie can be found using the techniques she’s learned with ALL her classes—kids & adults. After teaching almost full-time for over a year and many hours of study, Katie received her 500-hour Advanced Yoga Certification from Asheville Yoga Center in November 2013. There she expanded her knowledge of therapeutics, Vinyasa flow, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Prenatal/Postnatal, meditation, pranayama (breathing practices), and yoga philosophy. Katie now teaches multiple adult classes in the Huntington, WV and Ashland, KY area as well as works with private families and clients. She is training for her Certified Personal Trainer designation through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, to be completed by the end of 2015.
When Katie is not teaching yoga, she enjoys spending time with her son (7) and daughter (1), and other friends and family. She LOVES to read and write (especially blogs for KAY), spending time outside, traveling, dancing, singing, being active in her church, and just getting out into the community. She has dreams of doing many things—including scrapbooking ALL her pictures (someday).
As the yoga community in Huntington grows, Katie looks forward to being a part of it by teaching students of ALL ages and skill levels. Her passion in teaching is helping students learn to love their bodies the way they are and for all the amazing things they can do! Katie experiences daily the difference yoga has made in her own life, and has seen the difference it makes in the lives of others—including children. She looks forward to spreading the seeds of peace and acceptance through sharing her passion for yoga & what she’s learning every day.
