Kidding Around Yoga With Jen Marie

Fun-filled kids yoga, meditation, and mindfulness for schools, events and more.

About Kidding Around Yoga

Every Kidding Around Yoga class offers a complete, age-appropriate Yoga practice including breathing instruction, relaxation techniques, stretching and strengthening poses, all using fun-filled music, games, and imagination. KAY’s secret is our playfulness, keeping your child motivated, excited, and moving. This is not your typical Yoga class. A KAY class gets children singing, dancing, skipping, marching, jogging, shaking, laughing, hopping, limbo-ing, and storytelling ALL while practicing Yoga to original KAY music.

Kidding Around Yoga classes are a unique opportunity to give your child skills that will provide a sense of balance, calm, and power for years to come.

About Jen Marie

My two greatest passions have come together, contributing to my life’s work in fostering connection and empathy in children. With over 12 years of experience working in education and mental health, as well as being a dedicated yoga practitioner, it has been a joy to bring these passions together by obtaining my Kidding Around Yoga certification in 2019. As a licensed School Counselor with a masters degree in Counseling, I am grounded in teaching mindfulness practices and calming strategies to help children more effectively cope with the everyday stressors that they may face today (i.e. busy schedules, academic pressures, conflict in relationships, social media, etc.).  By learning to notice what is happening in their minds and bodies, children can gain a better understanding of their emotions and the perspectives of others. What started as teaching yoga to my two young children, and seeing how they benefit from it, led me to want to share the gift of yoga with little ones in my community and beyond.

Kidding Around Yoga with Jen Marie aims to grow each child’s empathy capacity and ability to shine their inner light by providing a safe space to slow down, connect, gain confidence and self-awareness, and tune in to their inner peace and joy, all while moving in ways that are healthy for our bodies.  Guided by the mantra “Peace begins with me,” we will explore how we are connected to all beings and prepare to shine our light of love into the world.

Girl Scouts

Hello local Scouts and neighborhood leaders!

I would love the opportunity to introduce the Science of Yoga to your troop/den and help them earn a Yoga Fun Patch.

While teaching the Science of Yoga, KAY provides a curriculum that is specifically designed to help children be active, learn to relax, improve focus, and have FUN in a non-competitive environment. I will offer a class customized for your troop level, which can include a special scout story, meditation techniques, games, activities, and much more!

I teach all troop/den levels and can even do a private sessions as well.

I look forward to hearing from your organization to schedule a class soon.

Empathy Curriculum

Empathetic children use these 9 essential habits. Michele Borba, Ed.D has developed this list from the latest research in child development, neuroscience, and social psychology.

Kidding Around Yoga with Jen Marie uses this blueprint to create thematic lessons through each session.

Developing the fundamentals of empathy:

    • Emotional literacy: recognizing and understanding the feelings and needs of the self and others
    • Moral identity: adopting caring values, integrity, and activating empathy to help others
    • Perspective taking: putting oneself in another person’s shoes, understanding their thoughts and views
    • Moral imagination: using literature, films, and images as a source of inspiration to feel with others

Practicing the habits of empathy:

    • Self-regulation: managing big feelings and reducing personal distress
    • Practicing kindness: increases concerns about the well-being of others
    • Collaboration: working with others to achieve shared goals for the benefit of all

Living empathetically:

    • Moral courage: speaking out, stepping in, and helping others
    • Altruistic leadership abilities: motivated to make a difference for others, no matter how small it may be
