Yoga Alliance Certification and Requirements

Yoga Alliance registration is not the same as “certification.” If you have completed our basic 2-day KAY training, you are fully certified to teach yoga to children in any capacity and are not required to complete further training or to join the Yoga Alliance.

How to register as a RCYT with the Yoga Alliance

There is no time frame in which you are to fulfill all of your 95 hour requirements with YA. You do not need to be a 200 hour certified teacher when you begin the process. However, you must be 200 hour certified if and when you register with the Yoga Alliance for your RYT and subsequently for your RCYT. Click here to learn more about the current guidelines from Yoga Alliance for teaching yoga to children which are outlined below.

  • Complete 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training
  • Complete 95 hour advanced Children’s Yoga Teacher Training
  • Submit 30 teaching hours in Kids Yoga that take place AFTER you get your 95 hour advanced Children’s Yoga Teacher Training certificate

Alternative Certification Paths

It is preferred that you take a 2-day training before the advanced training. However, you can attend the advanced training first if need be. Or, have you taken a basic Kids Yoga certification program other than KAY? You can still attend our advanced training and be eligible to receive your 95 hour certificate. Here’s how…

“I haven’t taken an initial Kids Yoga training yet.”

  1. Complete your registration form and submit your initial payment.
  2. Commit to attend a 2-day training in the near future by registering and paying (regular discounts apply).

If you do not register for the 2-day training before the 95-hr program start date, you will need to pay a $150 fee to gain access to your online coursework. Details of how to make this payment will be sent to you after your registration is complete. This course will need to be completed in its entirety before attending the advanced 95 hour training you register for.

You can also take your 2- day LIVE TRAINING in a nearby location the weekend before the Advanced 95 hour training.

*Note that you are not eligible to receive your advanced 95 hour certificate until you have completed the live 2-day training.

“I have completed my initial Kids Yoga training with another school (RCYS).”

  1. Submit your initial Kids Yoga training certificate to us for approval on your registration form.
  2. Make your initial payment for the training.
  3. Pay a $150 fee to gain access to the online coursework that will need to be completed in its entirety before attending the advanced 95 hour training you register for. Details of how to make this payment will be sent to you after your registration is complete.

Your Trainers

Melody Herscher: E-RYT 200, RCYT, M.Ed.

With 14+ years in public schools as a teacher, Instructional Coach, Transformation Specialist, and certified school administrator, Melody is no stranger to the challenges that our children face today. She struggled with feeling as though she was limited in what she could do for children in her position given the constraints of public education. This “karmically” brought her to find the Kidding Around Yoga method. It was something that allowed her to combine all of her passions, education and career experiences into a neat package that finally made sense!

Melody has always valued creativity, the ability to foster positive self-talk and encouraged expression of individuality with each child she’s met. KAY classes are a safe place where all of these things can happen, intertwined with the physical benefits of yoga. It truly is a place where she finds herself feeling like she is making a difference in the lives of young people. Melody completed her 200-hr RYT training at Holy Cow Yoga Center in Charleston, SC and holds an advanced certificate for teaching Kids Yoga from Kidding Around Yoga. Additionally, she is the Director of Operations and US Training Coordinator for KAY. Melody feels sufficiently armed to tackle spreading the love, kindness, and compassion to each and every kiddo so they too can feel empowered to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Annadelis Suarez: E-RYT 500, YACEP

Annadelis is a 500 hr Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, a certified Kids Yoga teacher, a Kidding Around Yoga trainer and a Mindfulness educator based in Ventura County, CA. She has been teaching yoga to children since 2015, guiding children through traditional postures, but also encouraging them to express their creativity by creating new postures and empowering them to lead games and activities.

She has worked with children from toddlers to teens. “Each age group has their own challenges and rewards and I love them all. It is fulfilling to watch and play with the toddlers as they respond to their parents and each other while learning and practicing yoga postures. It is also both fun and rewarding to observe the pre-teens and teens express their ability and confidence in the physicality of yoga and meditation and mindfulness exercises they are taught. But the true prize; however, is in recognizing the peaceful confidence that they have developed and will bring out into the world with them.”
